I first began papermaking after taking a wonderful summer class with Betty Carlisle at the University of Northern Colorado about twenty years ago. She had a huge studio with enough room for twenty people to work. In a week we covered just about every possible way there is to make paper. It was overwhelming at first, but I loved the freedom and the wide variety of techniques that paper afforded. The only rule was to stay away from anything that might cause the paper to deteriorate. I was living in Colorado Springs and there was a lot of interest in paper at that time. Four years ago I moved to San Miguel de Allende, a beautiful artist's colony in central Mexico. My studio is on the roof of our two story house and the views and the light are wonderful. There is color and texture everywhere The vegetation is new to me and has found its way into my artistic expression.
